How long does Tanalised softwood last?
Tanalising timber should mean that the wood is rot proof for a good number of years. In general, we say that the inside of the wood should be protected for about 40 years, and the outside for about 25 years. This is without any extra treatment, staining, or painting on your behalf, however, we do recommend applying a good quality wood preservative every 2 years, this will ensure the wood stays in good condition – we have buildings at our Wadebridge depot that were erected 25 years ago from Tanalised Timber and are in perfect condition – we have applied a wood treatment every 2 years, we have no rot at all, if you are putting the timber into the ground (Soil) we recommend using concrete as a back fill, around the post, but not under the post, this will allow any moisture inside the post to drain away,
Do you need to seal cut ends of pressure treated wood?
Yes, sealing cut ends is very important, as with any Treated Timber, use a good quality wood preservative, if we are installing wooden posts into the ground we soak them in preservative overnight, you don’t have to do this, but it does help preserve the timber.
