Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs
South West Forestry’s Cornish Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are packed into user friendly nets, each net contains approximately 11 to 14 logs sometimes more, depending on the size of log, the size of log can vary depending on the wood coming into our processing plant in Wadebridge.
Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs in the nets can be a mixture of, Oak, Ash, Birch, Cherry, Beech, this varies from batch to batch, depending on what is being cut in the woods and forest of Cornwall.
Our Cornish Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs come mainly from large estates in Cornwall, or land which is being cleared for building, land being cleared for roads this has been one of our biggest intake of hardwood in the last 12 months.
Large estates are clearing lots of overgrown land, land which has become overgrown because the timber which is grown there has no commercial use anymore, the wood harvested from large estates was used to make tools, buildings, boats and so on, but over the years, importing cheap products from abroad has meant substantial amounts of forests have become overgrown.
Rest assured that our Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are from sustainable sources, once land is cleared and cleaned more trees are planted, ready for our children to enjoy and cherish.
The Hardwood used to produce Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs comes in many shapes and sizes, so the logs will never be perfectly round or oval, hardwood trees grow in some strange shapes, we do however try to maintain a constant looking Kiln Dried Logs.
South West Forestry’s Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are kiln dried on site in one of our 7 kilns, our kilns are heated using the waste from processing hardwood logs, we produce no waste from our production plant so we have a very small carbon footprint.
Our Cornish Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are dried to perfection, after careful experiments and research we find that the Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs need to be dried to less than 20% moisture, this gives you the perfect burn, if the Kiln Dried Logs are to dry, they burn to fast and to hot, if they are not dry enough, then smolder and don’t give much heat output.
The Hardwood Logs go into our kilns with a moisture between 35% to 45% moisture depending on the time of year, we then Kiln Dry the Hardwood Logs to approximately 8% moisture, we have removed most of water from the log, they are now Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs, this is not the end, they then go into one of our holding sheds where the good Cornish air blows through, the logs then rehydrate to the moisture of the Cornish air, which averages 15% to 20%.
The hardwood used to produce our kiln Dried Hardwood Logs is grown, harvested, split, netted and kiln dried in Cornwall, these logs are Made in Cornwall and approved by Cornwall Council & Trading Standards, purchasing from us, you are supporting the Cornish community.
