Please don’t be alarmed if you see the bark coming away from the log, this means the Kiln Dried Log has a lower moisture level, this bark is great for lighting your fire, our customers really like this as they don’t need kindling.

Our Kiln Dried Logs will vary in size, they are a natural product, tree’s all grow differently, most have a different diameter, so then the Log is split they will vary in size, you will have some larger logs as well as smaller ones, the smaller Logs are great to get your fire up to temperature quickly then you can put the larger Logs on for a longer burn, you may also notice that the bark will look slightly different from others, this is perfectly normal as they are a natural product and like us, they all grow and mature differently.

Choosing the right firewood

It is fundamental that you use ‘Kiln Dried Firewood’ in your woodburning stove. Part seasoned firewood can be burnt, but you must ensure it has had enough time to dry. Never burn wet wood in your log burner as it will leave dangerous deposits in your appliance and flue.

Wood burning stoves

Burning wet wood will be detrimental to your stove and flu. Deposits of tar will start to cling to your appliance and build up over a period. This will put you at risk of flu fire.
The quality of the wood you burn is essential to the health of your appliance. We recommend that you only burn firewood that has a moisture content below 20%.

Burning efficiently

It’s important that you burn wood efficiently. This mean that if you buy Kiln Dried Firewood you will get the maximum amount of heat per log that is bought. If you are burning wet wood, this means that you are boiling off excess water from each log before it produces any heat. It may be cheaper to buy but not cheaper in the long run.

How to tell if your wood has a low moisture content?

There are a couple of ways you can determine that you wood has a low moisture content. Firstly, the weight. If your logs are heavy, it’s likely your firewood is holding too much moisture.

If your logs appear cracked, this is also a good indication that they are dry.

You can also tell if your firewood is letting off a lot of smoke and blackening your stove glass. All signs that your wood is holding too much moisture.

The easiest way would be to purchase a moisture meter, which will give you a more accurate reading.

Part Seasoned Logs

The moisture content in seasoned logs will differ dramatically. It is essential that you allow seasoned logs to dry in a well ventilated area before burning for at least 6 months from purchase. This will allow the moisture level your logs to get down to an acceptable level. Remember, below 20% is the ideal.

Log Size

We supply many different log sizes. Our Kiln dried logs come in 8 Inch and 10 Inch. Our part seasoned firewood comes in sizes ranging from 8 inch to 12 Inch. We also have some specially split cooking woods for Outdoor or Pizza ovens.

Firewood species

We have several species of wood available. All have distinctive characteristics.

Kiln Dried Ash Hardwood – Our kiln dried ash is one of our most popular and gives a long lasting burn with a high heat output. It also has a very pleasing, bright flame effect.

Kiln Dried Birch Hardwood – Birch burns very much like Ash, although it does burn slightly quicker. It is a good burning wood that produces a consistent and long heat output. It has a very bright flame effect.

Kiln Dried Oak Hardwood – Oak is an extremely dense wood and takes a longer period to dry through but in turn creates a great log for burning. Being so dense, it can take a little practice to get the fire started initially. Once you have good base established this firewood can provide a long, steady burn.

You can buy firewood from us in Nets, Bags, Boot, Barrows, Bulk Bags, 1m Bags.
